Suzanne Choney from MSNBC wrote this article last Friday detailing some research done as to whether the internet is helping or hurting human intelligence. Some say that the access to all the information the internet has is making us smarter in a slightly different way than in years past. Others say that we are using Google as a crutch to do the bare minimum in terms of research. So where do you stand?

Me personally, I think the information on the internet is fantastic. I’ve accessed things and studies topics I wouldn’t normally have been able to. On the other hand, with the proliferation of blogs and other sites put up with faulty information, reading info from one site only doesn’t alkways paint the fullest picture. If you plan to do research, it’s best to gather information from multiple, credible sites.

Google is set to take down it Chinese search engine due to allegations that the Chinese government’s actions toward human rights activists using gmail to communicate as well as oppressing other companies.  I wonder if  the doomsday clock movement on Thursday has something to do with this.

Anyone notice how big Google is really getting? First mobile phones, next their own operating system and now they are putting out applications that will put other industries to task. For example, they are releasing an application that will simply take revenue away from mobile carriers. If someone did this to them they would smack them hard and make sure they felt it for a long time. Just seems like maybe they forgot the little guy!

So China is staking a stand against porn! Google has acknowledged that the Chinese government asked it to disable a search feature with the goal of censoring pornography. I’m not 100% sure if I think this is good or bad. Freedom of speech is a fundamental right of man but with the Internet becoming more and more devious each day I’m not so sure that cleaning it up a bit isn’t such a bad idea.

Hmmm, Google is improving their “smarter search engine” and I already thought the current search process was okay. Somehow I think this will hurt smaller businesses that already spend a fortune to be found online. I know there is no simple way to do things but there has got to be a way for smaller businesses to get their name out there and their website found to help drive the economy. It seems like the same businesses pop up whenever you search for something.

This is great news for windows mobile and iphone users. Although Google has cornered the market with their G1 device with its automatic sync technology with their Google accounts. Google has purchased licencing agreements from Microsoft to allow the use of active sync to aid in setting up syncing capabilities with windows mobile phones and iPhones. Is it just me or is the thought of Google partnering in any way with Microsoft a scary thought?
