Are there too many social networks?

I’m starting to think so. If you sign up for just the top ones. Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and youtube you’ll likely spend your entire day catching up and trying to get ahead of of all the video posts, pokes, reviews friend requests and spam. I really think the Internet has become saturated with online communities and for some reason most people feel compelled to join every one that becomes popular. Let’s put it into real world terms.

If a social watering hole opened up in town you’d likely go check it out. If that establishment was among 500 other ones in your town you would still check it out but it’s unlikely that you would frequent all 500 establishments on a regular basis. I think we are all getting social network overload!
